It includes five selectable drive modes and Trail Control, a low-speed cruise control system for off-roading.

The new Tremor package upgrades the AWD system with a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with differential lock, which can send almost all of the rear axle’s power to the left or right wheel. Towing capacity for both engines is 2,000 lbs, but the 2.0L can be optioned with a maximum towing package that increases it to 4,000 lbs. Payload capacity is a maximum of 1,500 lbs, and when the tailgate is opened to its halfway position, the truck can carry the ubiquitous 4-by-8 sheet of plywood atop the wheel wells. The Maverick is based on the same SUV platform as the Escape and Bronco Sport, leading some nay-sayers to complain that it isn’t really a truck but for those who want a practical compact vehicle with a bed, this is the real deal. The optional engine choice is a turbocharged 2.0L “EcoBoost” four-cylinder making 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, with eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It’s mated to an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and is strictly front-wheel drive. The Maverick’s base powertrain is a hybrid, combining a 2.5L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with a hybrid system that delivers a combined 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Rapid Red and Velocity Blue exterior shades are gone, while Atlas Blue Metallic and Avalanche Grey are added. New available options for the Maverick – some dependent on trim - include a drop-in or spray-in bedliner, bed tie-down rails, bed divider, tool box, remote starter, connected navigation, 17- or 18-inch black wheels, and Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist Package. The base XL trim now receives standard cruise control, while ambient lighting has been discontinued on the XL and XLT. There’s also a new off-road Tremor Package, available on the XLT and Lariat with 2.0L, which includes a one-inch lift, advanced part-time AWD with four-wheel lock, and off-road-tuned suspension. Most notable is that the top-trim Lariat, which previously came strictly with a 2.0L gas-only engine, can now be ordered as a hybrid, so all three trims have the option of either driveline. Introduced as an all-new model for 2022, the Ford Maverick enters 2023 with a number of changes to its features and packages.
